There are two suites and you pay this huge fee for the use of both, which can be opened up to join together. They both have a sitting room, dining room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and dressing room. They both have a jacuzzi, plasma screen television and DVD library as well as teak floors, silk curtains and art deco style furniture to match the style of the room.

There is a terrace which has views of the entire Bay of Cannes and it is so large it can fit 100 people on it – so fantastic if you are hosting a party. It has an open bar and a kitchen plus the services of a butler for the duration of your stay as well as access to a limousine.

The marbled bathroom with bathtub, shower and double sink with sauna come with welcome gifts which most hotels no longer offer. The room also has internet connection, a computer, fax, telephone, writing desk and satellite television so if you need to work or communicate then it should be very easy to do so.

The hotel also boasts three restaurants, a piano bar, a private beach, a heated pool and reception lounges. It is suitable for the largest of conferences.

I certainly could not justify this expense myself but it would be fabulous to host a wonderful reception for friends and family in such a fantastic place. I guess we can all dream!

The nearby village of Yaiza is also well worth a visit.  It’s known locally as the miracle village as this is where the flow of lava from the volcanoes at Timanfaya finally halted after eruptions in the 1730´s.  It´s a pretty little village that is regarded as the capital of the south.  But don’t expect a bustling metropolis – more a lightly pulsating pueblo!

In the event of a fire in another area of the hotel, take the room key and flashlight. Place the back of one’s hand against the door to check for heat. If heat is not detected then check the hallway for smoke. If smoke is present then crawling low to the floor to exit the nearest stairwell is strongly advised. Again, do not use the elevator.

If heat is detected by touching the door or smoke fills the hallway then staying in the room is the best option. The fire is nearby. Call for help, cram the bottom of the doorway with wet towels, and fill the bathtub with water. Use the duct tape from the survival kit to tape all of the door’s edges. Signal for help by hanging a bed sheet from a window. Wait for fire officials to come and never attempt to jump from the room’s window.
