How to Find a Good Inexpensive Hotel and Avoid Nightmares

It can be difficult to find a quality hotel when planning an escape to a new vacation spot, especially if it’s on a tight budget. Don’t worry. With a little help and guidance, you can find the perfect hotel at the right price, even if it’s to a place you’ve only seen in travel magazines.

I’ve done my share of traveling. Needless to say, I have my fair share of storied nightmares. I’ll make sure that you don’t end up in the same cheap hotels that will give you nightmares as well. Ever been on a ski trip and the hotel room floor suddenly dropped six inches? I have. Luckily, my room was on the first floor. Having police raid your hotel in search of illegal immigrants isn’t exactly the whisper of ocean waves. What happened the next night? I didn’t stick around to find out.

A good inexpensive hotel room shouldn’t be such a risk. You could always go to a previous vacation spot, but where’s the adventure in that? The next best thing? Ask a friend who has already been to that town or region that you have in mind.

Ask the friend about the places they’ve stayed in the past. Did they enjoy it? Did they too wake up six inches lower than when they went to bed? Was it expensive? What amenities did the hotel offer? No one will recommend a hotel that left them feeling ripped off.

If you can’t find anyone who has been to your future vacation spot then you’ll just have to do a little research. You don’t want to gamble on the place that is going to give you a good night’s rest from all of that vacation excitement.

The internet is a great resource for hotel information and reviews. Most travel websites contain reviews from people who have stayed at hotels that might interest you. Read through them. You can get a good feel for the overall guest satisfaction. Maybe the negative reviews only complain about things that aren’t important to you. Keep an eye out for reviews that mention the things that you consider to be most important for a positive vacation experience.

If you’re not internet savvy then speaking with a travel agent might be the best route. It is a great way to ensure that the choice you make in hotels will be with a reputable one.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Most people are happy to give their opinions on previous hotel stays, good or bad. Also, don’t be afraid to call a hotel directly to gather information and ask questions. It might take a little time and effort, but finding the perfect hotel at the right price will be well worth the relaxing time spent there.
