The Many Faces of Barcelona

The city that attracted me most in Europe is Barcelona. It is located in the south eastern part of Spain and is the capital city of Catalonia Province. It´s a highly populated city, and it actually has more than 5 million people.

There was a time when Barcelona became a military camp of the Romans. The place was also conquered by the Moors, Visigoths and many others. These conquerors have influenced many of its structures, which made it to a city of mixed cultures.

When planning to go to Barcelona, don’t forget to include in your itinerary the Ciutat Vella. This attraction is located right in the center of Barcelona and within it are well preserved structures built a long time ago by the Romans. While walking on the streets, it’s more like a blast from the past.

A lot of tourists find themselves enjoying in the long stretch of La Ramba Boulevard. This is  the central business district of Barcelona where you’ll find many shops, booths, bars, restaurants, clubs and even an opera house. This is where most of vacationers flock and enjoy what the city can offer.

Museums in Barcelona mostly house works of very popular artists. Find your way to the National Museum of Art of Catalonia and get to appreciate the large pieces of old structures extracted from some of the city’s famous landmarks before they got demolished. This can be considered a city built within the city of Barcelona. If you want to visit the museums, you have to check beforehand their opening and closing schedule for they do not really follow a strict schedule.

Several people in Barcelona are big fans of soccer, which others call football. Make sure that you find time to watch a game when you happen to be in the city during the season. You will see how passionate people are about the game as seen through the large cheering yet peaceful crowd.

If you have passion for arts, Barcelona is the best place to visit. Most of the most visited architectural structures are the works of the ever famous Antoni Guadi. The Sagrada Familia church is said to be his most renowned creation even though he wasn’t able to complete it before he died. Other works of Guadi that are worth visiting are the Casa Mila and the Casa Batllo.

If you’re planning to go to Europe, Barcelona should be on top of your list. I guess the only problem that you’ll probably be encountering is how you will be able to detach yourself from this lovely place.
